I’ve been using ArKaos VJ since years now, at that time I needed a video application that has some nice effects, that can run in real time and that can be controlled via MIDI. Back in those days I was using a self-built DMX-2-MIDI converter, so that I could trigger pictures or films; this was a very simple but very stable media server for me.

Now, with ArKaos VJ DMX, I’ve got a “pay less, get much” solution for visuals that I can control from my Wholehog 3 or iPC console just like a moving light or any other fixture. It’s very useful because I often have to trigger other parts of the lighting setup at the same time during an show.

On tour, each venue is different; the distance to the screen varies, but also the angle, the light etc.. In just a few minutes I can now correct keystone, luminosity and colors for my visuals directly from the console without the need to re-render movies. In the same way, if I have a movie which goes along with a live song and the band decides to play 5 beats faster.. no re-rendering, I just bring up the speed… that’s it.

Of course I don’t always need all those features, and the great thing is that I can also run ArKaos VJ DMX on my G4 PowerBook so that I can take it with me for small clubshows, hook it up there and use it with their local equipment.
