MediaMaster 1.2 RC1

Postby polanri » Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:53 pm

Here's the first Release Notes version of MediaMaster 1.2. It comes with support for audio and a few other new features.

Please test it and report any problems you might encounter. The download links are at the end of this post.

New Features

Support for movie's audio through FFMpeg and Quicktime (supports most formats). MediaMaster 1.2 comes with the new ArKaos Audio Output engine. The application will now play the audio track embedded in a movie file. We've added a new Audio preferences panel in which you can select your audio input and output devices, the audio output engine buffer size and its main volume volume. You can deactivate audio playback by choosing "No Audio" as output device.

Audio format and sampling rate have been added in the Visual Info box that appears when you hover the mouse on a movie thumbnail in Media Library or in the main window:

New Time Reference: In MediaMaster 1.1, we introduced a new ultra smooth playback engine, synchronizing movie playback with the graphical card display (read more about this here and here). In version 1.2, you now have the choice from the Display preferences to synchronize either to the display or to the system clock. Synchronizing to System clock will make MediaMaster play content like version 1.0 did, but since we've now added audio playback, this setting is mandatory to get a good audio/video synchronization.

Support for Flash Actionscript3: the flash player has been updated to cope with AS3 (you can find more info about how to write your AS3 to work with MediaMaster on our Blog)

Quartz-Composer Support (Mac only): Under Mac OS X, Mediamaster now allows to use Quartz Composer .qtz files directly, both as sources and effects. In older versions it was necessary to save them as QuickTime movies with the big drawbacks that it was slow and it did not allow to change compositions variables. Now the compositions are rendered natively through the fastest available interface.
You can import .qtz sources easily by adding them to your media library, just like you import any standard movie.
Adding quartz composer effects is a little bit more tricky because you need to modify the default fixture to be able to control your effects via DMX. It is possible to do however and if you would like to go that way, please contact us and weʼll describe you the way to follow.
The default Media Library now comes with tens of Quartz-Compositions from various artists (more information about these in the pdf files contained in the bank).
We've also created new Layer fixtures 1.1 (Maxi and Tiny) which contain a effect bank dedicated to Quartz-Composer effects.

Master Fixture Full 1.1: The Master Fixture 1.1 adds the following to the previous existing one:
    • Channel 14: Allows a dimmer to select the layer whose parameters are show
    • Channel 15: Controls the master output of the volume. This parameter can also be controlled through a dedicated rotary button on the master control panel:

    • Channel 16: Allows to blackout the output. If the dimmer is under 250, the output will be shown. Above that value, the fullscreen output will be cut (black) but the previews will stay visible. The parameter is also accessible in the master control panel, next to the brightness and control settings:

Fit to Screen option (Windows only): In the display tab, we added a new option called ʻfit to screenʼ (default is on):

This option goes together with the force resolution option. As a reminder, when “force resolution” is on, the engine will automatically change the resolution of the monitor to the specified resolution when going fullscreen. This also ensures the engine runs in a special DirectX mode that is optimal for speed. If ʻforce resolutionʼ is off, the engine will run internally at the specified resolution but the monitor will be left in whatever resolution it was. If ʻFit to screenʼ is set, the content of the output will be ʻstretchedʼ to fit the monitor resolution. If it isnʼt, the output will be displayed in a smaller window located at the top left of the monitor. This is especially handy if you want to drive LED walls using devices that convert part of the screen.
