decklink cards

Postby lighttch » Sat Dec 07, 2013 3:41 am

Has anyone out there successfully used a Blackmagic Designs Decklink Studio Card to capture video. I am trying to capture the SDI output off a video switcher.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I use Decklink Studios in my MM (PC-based) servers as primary capture with Intensity Pros/Shuttles and Decklink Mini Recorders, as required.
Have used often for recording from ATEM and other presentation mixers and switchers, HDSDI image quality is excellent.
Make sure you are recording onto a very fast drive or raid array- use disk speed test app to check if drive speed is fast enough for recording resolution chosen. Also be aware that depending on recording format, files sizes can be very large.
Either use media express software or 3rd party NLE (premiere/FCP/etc) for recording. Resolutions will have to match.
Check out blackmagic designs forum for more in-depth questions.

That is very helpful. But I am wondering about using the cards with GrandVJ not MM.

Hi Andrew,
Sorry, misread your post- thought you wanted to record a mixed set from GVJ.
Yes, decklink studios work with GVJ, especially with the new update that enables native support for BMD drivers. Previously we had to pre-cue live feed at start of set (load to mixer layer at 1%) to stop initial lag caused by running through quicktime.

Yeah the BM declink card works really well.
I also have a AVID and it can't touch what the BM can do.
