Postby PhasedMedia » Thu Jul 31, 2014 4:39 am

Fixes:
-Thumbnails for still images now supported in mixer mode.
-Default contrast is now correct.
-Memory leaks seem to fixed (more testing to do).

Remaining bugs:
-Chroma keying still unable to key Red, Yellow, and Magenta colours. But will key out black and greys.

New grand crashfest down here.. Program quits two seconds afer boot, crashreporter and application processes fail to shutdown. Alongside regular crashes on importing mapping files.. yeah, I think we need another "stability patch".

**update** launching videomapper alone and deleting virtual display seems to solve the 1st issue. It works even if a crash log is fired every time GrandVj boots.

Try this...

Open Finder.
Command Shift G
Type: ~/Library/Preferences/
Delete: GV2 folder
Delete: com.ArKaos.GrandVJ.plist if you see it.
It's safe to delete any file related to Arkaos or GVJ2 here. Nothing harmed in deleting a .plist or .xml file.

That should do it.

Start GVJ - should be back to factory defaults. I had a crashfest too after loading 2.0.3 - this worked for me.

N.B. never use Time reference: Display.

Hi JJJ, thanks for the info, I am running windows so I must look for that folder.
I think the issue is about moving surfaces from a screen to another. If you hear yelling down from Italy on the night of 13th august,.. it's me trying to pass the surfaces from a virtual display to four beamers :D

Hi paul-h.

Although I'm not using Windows, your crash symptoms sound very similar.

What led me down the path to discover the preference files was that even after doing a complete uninstall - re-download - reinstall, I was getting crashes.

As an experiment I did a fresh install on the same computer but logged in as a different user and voila - it worked.

This led me down the path to dig deeper and find any files associated with the program that were left behind.

Perhaps a similar process may work for you.

I haven't touched Windows in years so I can't suggest where to look.

Best of luck.

BTW - I generally don't get much tech help from Arkaos via this forum but when I open a support ticket I always hear back very quickly.

Paul-h,

I found this buried in the Arkaos site...

Problem:

[PC] My software systematically crashes at startup
[PC] My registered software asks for a serial at each startup
[PC] How can I reset the software to default preferences?

Solution:

Startup problems can be caused by corrupted Preferences files. Sometimes you may also have configured the software in a way that you cannot modify anymore (i.e. starting full screen automatically on a display which is no more connected to the computer). Most of the time, deleting the software Preferences files is enough to fix the issue, the software will create new, clean Preferences files at the next start.

To find and delete your ArKaos software Preferences files, first quit the software, then

For GrandVJ, browse to:

On Windows XP : \Documents and Settings\"YourUserName"\Application Data\GrandVJ
On Windows Vista and Seven : \Users\"YourUserName"\AppData\Roaming\GrandVJ
Then delete the following files:
GrandVJ_preferences.xml
GrandVJ_settings.xml
log.txt

For MediaMaster, browse to:
On Windows XP : \Documents and Settings\"YourUserName"\Application Data\ArKaos MediaMaster
On Windows Vista and Seven: \Users\"YourUserName"\AppData\Roaming\ArKaos MediaMaster
Then delete the following files:
ArKaos MediaMaster_preferences.xml
ArKaos MediaMaster_settings.xml
log.txt
Note: Relpace "YourUserName" in the path by Windows account user name.

Then launch the software again.

Now all your setting should be in default status. You will need to enter your serial number again to unlock the software. You can retrieve your serial number in your customer account, once logged in to the ArKaos web site, on the "My orders" page.

JJJ, Yep, deleted all those files, no success.. then I deleted mapping.xml and gvj started ok. But when I imported my mapping file with a draft display in it, videomapper hung and then gvj refused to start all over. Keeping open videomapper and deleting the draft display made things work againg, but I'm left without the draft display!
So something must be wrong with videomapper.
Curently my pc is hammering arkaos with crash reports, but this evening I might be hammering my head against a concrete pillar.

I'm getting an intermittent Grand VJ splash screen that covers the span of my output.

Only way I can get rid of it for a while is to momentarily exit fullscreen.

Anyone else getting this???

Hi JJ,
Haven't seen this on GVJ yet, but I did get a similar problem with an older version of MediaMaster.
Was caused by having a very large library- do you get this bug when you have only a few visuals?

Thanks, JJJ, I am on Mac and after 'just' installing 2.0.3 it would start only halfway and then NOTHING (some kind of crash, but without messages from the application nor the OS).
Your tips were exactly right, I put those files in the trash and after that, 2.0.3 did start.
Had to down- and upload the serial.gvs file (activation) and after that, it starts as it should.
Had to disable the XT demo mode via Preferences.
No experience yet about the (new) functionality / stability.

Thank you again,
cheers,
Arie

hi, install version 2.03 on windows xp
the output screen moments and then leans back to normal.

reset it by deleting the files:
grandvj_setting
grandvj_preferences
log.txt

to start again, the program will get injured, and I run out of audio files

At last my show went ok, but my idea is that mapping application is uh, buggy?
Importing a preset hangs the application. Once terminated it, on restart the new file is correctly loaded BUT sometimes GVJ refuses to launch. To fix I must launch the videomapper from outside GVJ, start a new mapping, exit, relaunch GVJ, relaunch mapper, import mapping file, wait it to crash, terminate it, shutdown GVJ, cross fingers and restart.
Yeah, and this happens on two different machines.
It's not a great deal if this happens ten minutes ahead the show.
I found also a lack of stability when screens change order or resolution. This happens often when an AMD (ATI) rig leaves the studio and goes to the venue. Screen one becomes four.. three is now two and so on (by the way, have you a fix for this annoying behaviour?).. in this case GVJ goes berzerk, and setting up virtual screens does not help.. just screws up everything.

Did you find these issues?
Before firing a ticket i would like to know if the fault is on my rigs' side or mapper is broken.

Not using the mapper and I'm on Mac.

As far as working on Macs may I suggest the following procedure.

De-activate the software.
Then uninstall all versions of GVJ 2.0.whatever.
Use an uninstaller - don't just drag the application to the trash.
Then follow the above procedure to delete the various preference files which still linger.

Then install GVJ 2.0.3.
Then re-activate software vis .gvs file or online with a serial.

Had good results testing 2.0.3 yesterday.

Will update again when I get more lab time on the weekend.

Cheers.

Same here since update 2.0.3 released.
Already send a ticket after that and today reopen ticket, but since then, no solving at sight...
Did you get it right?

I had a good day of testing.

Ran GVJ on autopilot with all channels running for 2 hours with no GVJ splash screen.

It seems my procedure above with a few extra steps may have solved the problem.

De-authorize software.

Completely uninstall all versions of GVJ.

Then delete the preference files that linger.

Download GVJ.

Install.

Authorize online or vis .gvs file.

Will test again tomorrow and update.

Flashpoint,

I had a good weekend of testing and no longer get the GVJ logo splash screen. I can't explain why but it seems to coincide with my procedure mentioned above. Fingers crossed.

Good luck.

JJJ, Did the steps like you said, but still happens here :(
Can you or anyone send me version 2.0.1 , since it was the last update that was stable when i've used it. And i can't find anymore older versions, they should be available like archived updates in downloads
2.0.2 had some memory problems, sometimes clearing the selected layer when you launch visuals, and 2.0.3 had that logo issue...
Thanks in advance ;)

Just dug through my computer and I can't find 2.0.1 - sorry.

I have had good testing and no logos. I suspect if you persist that you will get past this issue and move on.

Good luck.
