GVJ 1.2.2 issues with Traktor Scratch Pro

Postby Moabyte » Sat Feb 05, 2011 5:12 pm

I recently added a Denon x1600 Mixer and Traktor Scratch Pro to a Mac Pro with OS 10.6.6 that also runs GVJ 1.2.2 and I am having issues with GVJ changing the sampling rate on the x1600 when it loads. I would like to use the x1600 as the input source in GVJ and in the future possibly using the out as well, but for now I only have the input set to the x1600. The x1600 is fully midi enabled and a Traktor certified mixer so it acts as the sound card needed for DVS, which I use. I use the mixer at 24bit/96khz, but when GVJ loads it changes it to 44.1. I can switch it back in Traktor but after a few minutes crackling and pops begin to emit from the speakers and I have to reset the sample rate in Traktor. This is a repeating cycle. I can set the GVJ audio to No Audio but obviously this is not what I want to do. The latest dev version does not allow me to turn off the audio and does the same thing, but rather than causing cracks and pops it just hard freeze the computer and the screen gets all distorted. A hard reset is the only thing that will bring it back.

It would be nice to have full access to the core-audio options for mixers and sound cards with multi out. It would also be nice to select the audio channel for each clip when a multi channel out is available. So far I can use the mixer flawlessly with Live and Traktor and getting GVJ in the mix without cracking or crashing will be awesome.

This freezing only happens when GVJ and Traktor are running together. I have tested on 2 different systems and it does the same thing, always when GVJ and Traktor are running together. If I separate them to different computers they run fine.

I think I'm not alone when I say that I'd like to use GVJ in a more AV environment and offer any input or help that I can to sort out the audio issues in GVJ which seems to be its weak spot atm.

UPDATE: I've replaced the ram and the freezes have stopped, at least for now and I am finally getting crash reports in my console. Who can I send these to, I feel they would be helpful to you. I also have tractor crash logs and itunes as well. Mostly crashes are related to changes made in GVJ or it jsut crashing randomly, but I'm having itunes to tractor crashes sometimes as well. Not sure what the issue is but the underlying thing here is the audio subsystems. The Denon x1600 is core audio compliant but its app is sent from the mixer to the mac as a service. In its prefs you tell it mac or pc. itunes uses internal sound set by system prefs. GVJ let you select via core audio but is limited. Please give us full core audio support, i am guessing you are working on this already.

My guess is GVJ is having issues with audio. Can we get a use Live 8 audio/ APC40 mapping feature? Away to use the 2 apps with tight integration woould be the S*(*^(*^. As an AV artist who uses 3 computer at the same time, sometimes 4 when recording in HD, using GVJ with the APC 40 is the best thing out there, combine it with the midi/audio features of the x1600 and you begin to see Live/GVJ/Traktor is a tight combination. Its just that 1.2.2 has issues with ram and cashing, v1.0 cant use apc40 feedback. Also, since 10.6.6 I can not get my 2 blackmajic cards to work at the same time in GVJ. It sees 1 and 2 loads 1 but errors loading 2 and then crashes. I've not tried 1.1 as I do not have it installed. The BM app to use 2 cards uses them fine.

I want to add that Modul8 is rock solid on my machines. Avenue crashes and has issues with capture cards, VDMX is solid but I don't use it that much. I use m8 on other machines that I feed into GVJ along with some other custom AV tricks in max for LIVE and jitter. Please, let me help you sort out issues I really need GVJ to be stable with live and traktor. I am licensed user of these apps. Please get in touch.

For what its worth, Live 8 is rock solid so is Reason 3,4,5.
